To compare the delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of cartilage (dGEMRIC) indexes acquired with different gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs), with emphasis on the difference in electrical charge, and to evaluate the feasibility of the use of GBCAs other than gadopentetate dimeglumine with a double negative charge (Gd-DTPA 2−) as alternatives at dGEMRIC.

This division was established by first calculating the mean and SD of the dGEMRIC indices of all of the study cohort patients. Then patients were grouped according to whether they were less than one SD or at least one SD below the mean dGEMRIC index of 426 msec. The dGEMRIC indices, with and without BMI dose correction, for each of the 4 ROI and averaged for each sagittal section are presented in Table 2.There was statistically significant negative correlation between age and dGEMRIC index regardless of BMI dose correction (medial dGEMRIC index, r = −0.40, p < 0.001; lateral dGEMRIC index, r = −0.29, p = 0.012). dGEMRIC index with quantitative measures of proteoglycan content and with semi-quantitative histologic scores3.

We measured dGEMRIC index, cartilage thickness, surface area, and volume for each of the four joint quadrants and compared the manual and the automated 3-D analyses using mean differences. Agreement between the techniques was assessed using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC). The dGEMRIC index was lower in SCFE hips than unaffected hips 456 ms (CI 419–493) vs 521 ms (CI 476–567) (P = 0.03). The difference was larger (mean 21 ms) in anterior than posterior regions of the hip (P = 0.038).

Conclusions: The higher pre-contrast T 1 in the superficial region than in the deep region is an indication of a higher water content in superficial cartilage.

The index of glycosaminoglycan distribution, T1Gd, can exceed 500 msec — Plot of delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) index values

In the knees with radiographic OA, the dGEMRIC index at baseline was lower than that in the knees without radiographic OA (P = 0.03). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study support the dGEMRIC index as a clinically relevant measure of cartilage integrity and suggest that a low index may be predictive of the development of knee OA. using T1(Gd) as the dGEMRIC Index as a measure of Gd-DTPA2-distribution may be less suitable at 3T than 1.5T. However, T1(Gd) as an index may prove to be clinically useful.

There was no significant difference between the groups with respect to age, sex, and body mass index. RESULTS: The mean dGEMRIC index (and standard deviation) for this cohort (473 +/- 104 msec) was significantly lower than that of a morphologically normal hip (570 +/- 90 msec).

The delayed Gadolinium Enhanced MRI of Cartilage (dGEMRIC) index is highly correlated to mechanical stiffness, and, although not as good as a direct mechanical measurement, the index can be used as The dGEMRIC index is highly correlated to mechanical stiffness. A generalized relationship was found to provide good correspondence across sources and regions. Use of the dGEMRIC index as a predictive measure of stiffness is possible, depending on the application's acceptable error. T (1Gd) (T (1) after penetration of a 0.2 mmol/kg dose of Gd-DTPA (2-)) has been used as the dGEMRIC index, although (1/T (1Gd)-1/T (1o)) should be more representative of Gd-DTPA (2-) concentration (where T (1o) = T (1) before contrast). Thus, a higher dGEMRIC index indicates healthier cartilage (Fig.

using T1(Gd) as the dGEMRIC Index as a measure of Gd-DTPA2-distribution may be less suitable at 3T than 1.5T. However, T1(Gd) as an index may prove to be clinically useful. Alternatively, further dGEMRIC studies could be performed at 1.5T, or at 3T with higher doses of Gd-DTPA2-and/or concurrent measurement of T1o. The dGEMRIC index was 20–30 % lower in the patients with early OA compared to healthy volunteers (P < 0.003) at all time points, with largest difference at the earlier time points due to faster wash-in of the contrast in the OA cartilage.

Patient-reported outcome tools used included the modified Harris hip score (mHHS), the Nonarthritic Hip Score (NAHS), the Hip Outcome Score Activities of Daily Living (HOS-ADL), and the Hip Outcome Score Sport-Specific Subscale (HOS-SSS) as well as a visual analog scale (VAS) for pain and a patient satisfaction score. The dGEMRIC index was 20–30 % lower in the patients with early OA compared to healthy volunteers (P < 0.003) at all time points, with largest difference at the earlier time points due to faster wash-in of the contrast in the OA cartilage. The baseline dGEMRIC index correlated with the improvement in the WOMAC score 1 year postoperatively.

(2) dGEMRIC was compared with BMI in 19 asymptomatic volunteers and 23 with osteoarthritis (OA). The dGEMRIC index in the cartilage adjacent to the repair tissue correlated negatively with radiographic osteophyte score, r = –0.75 (p = 0.03). Interpretation — A traumatic cartilage injury is associated with a high prevalence of OA after 17 years. Objective To determine the association between changes in the delayed gadolinium-enhanced MRI of cartilage (dGEMRIC) index over 2 years as a measure of cartilage proteoglycan concentration, with changes in cartilage thickness in the medial tibiofemoral compartment of knees in middle-aged women. Methods One hundred and forty-eight women (one knee for each subject) aged ≥40 years were included To compare the delayed gadolinium-enhanced magnetic resonance (MR) imaging of cartilage (dGEMRIC) indexes acquired with different gadolinium-based contrast agents (GBCAs), with emphasis on the difference in electrical charge, and to evaluate the feasibility of the use of GBCAs other than gadopentetate dimeglumine with a double negative charge (Gd-DTPA 2−) as alternatives at dGEMRIC.
